New York City District # 9 use of the Houghton Mifflin Mathematics help raise the test scores of many of the students in just one year. The district has the largest non-white population and statistically has the lowest income across the United States. Areas included in district 9 include the Upper West Side along Riverside Park, Morningside Heights and central Harlem. Nearly one half of the adults living in district 9 are not gainfully employed. So there is a great many issues that need to be addressed to help improve education in this New York school System. Parents and School officials are and making efforts to deal with these low score averages and planning ways to better education for its students. District 9 knows that all students are capable of learning, regardless of their abilities, race, color, national origin or creed, and works to make sure this responsibility is met.
