Canandaigua Primary School is located at 96 West Gibson Street Canandaigua, NY and provides education to grades PK-2 in Ontario County. The school provides a nurturing, supportive beginning to a child's educational experience. Our two main goals focus on character development and academic achievement. The full day kindergarten program is center based encouraging exploration and creativity. The children's social and emotional developments are addressed. Reading, writing, and math readiness experiences are an important part of the kindergarten program.

Academics for all primary children are taught through the use of manipulative, hands-on activities and direct instruction. Using literature, a wide variety of approaches including phonics is used to teach reading. Teachers gather and use assessment data regularly to meet student needs in small group and one to one learning situations. The instructional program utilizes current research regarding best practices for young children.

The children's school experience is supported through such services as Reading Recovery, speech and language therapy, occupational and physical therapy, full time school psychologist, counselor and nurse-teacher. The instructional program is enhanced by the arts, gifted education offerings for all children, and computers in every classroom.
The school wishes all students to be safe, engaging environment that values all members of the community and encourages them to pursue their full potential as life-long learners and respectful citizens.

The teachers make every effort to incorporate literacy learning in all areas of learning: social studies, science, math, health, physical education, and the arts. Parents with children attending this public School enjoy the fact the district have small classrooms, caring, dedicated teachers, and the desire of the school for parent involvement. Parents are welcome to visit anytime and even enjoy eating lunch with their child or help in the classroom.
