School 21 follows the New York State Board of Regents adopted learning standards for all areas of study. The New York State Education Department issues the core curricula and these core curricula’s are the foundation upon which State assessments are aligned and developed. The community spirit has promoted a sense of commitment to the school district, which serves as a community center and a source of pride for all, including senior citizens and other local residents.
There is a shared sense of the significance of local history, the importance of families, and the involvement of people of all ages in the community and the schools. The purpose at school 21 is to nurture each student's unique potential, enabling them to become life long learners. Literacy is at the heart of all programs and activities emphasizing written and spoken language, mathematics and the arts in a literature-based format across all areas of the curriculum. Students attending will become aware of their responsibilities in a larger global community and will be academically prepared for a successful future.
School 21 children are actively involved in extensive, hands on projects requiring the use of state of the art technology; enabling them to become productive citizens of an ever changing global society. Research-based best practices are used in reading, the writing process, mathematics, science and social studies. Reading, writing and mathematics are taught in extended blocks of time to practice and apply skills.
