P.S. 249 Caton School

About

P.S. 249 Caton School provides education to the pre-adolescent and early adolescent youngster in a smooth and gradual transition from the self-contained classroom of the elementary school to the more specialized, departmentalized environment of the high school. There are many opportunities for experimentation and exploration, both in and out of the classroom. Each youngster is encouraged to develop an increasing sense of personal worth and a sense of responsibility. Special services are available for all students who may need additional support, and include teaching English as a second language, speech, and reading. Opportunities for cooperative learning and individual instruction are presented daily, and students are encouraged to be active participants in their own learning. Special assemblies and field trips help to enhance the core curriculum areas. An appreciation of the arts is an important ingredient in the overall development of the children at Caton School. Special select assemblies are presented throughout the year, exposing our children to various art forms including dance and music.
