Park School

About

Park School offers some really excellent learning programs for their students. The Social Studies Program deals with the child’s development as an individual and presents an introduction to the family, school, neighborhood and the Ossining community. The children also learn about holidays and community helpers. Learning experiences are set in the immediate world of the child and individual feelings are stressed. At Park School children will learn to use art as a way to express their ideas and feelings. Artistic development will be encouraged through the use of varied media such as watercolor, tempra paint, oil pastels, and clay to name a few. They will create paintings, drawings, sculptures, collages, and engage in printmaking.

The Park School teachers are making use of the Preventing Academic Failure (PAF) Handwriting Program. The letters in this program are not taught in alphabetical order. The letters which are most commonly reversed are introduced first. Also, letters that are easily confused are separated. Since handwriting and spelling are integrated the sequence was chosen to facilitate the spelling of easy words. Capital letters are interspersed with the lower case forms so that the children can begin to write sentences.
