Even though this public school is rural and small it offers the same programs as large schools. With its upgraded technology infrastructure that uses fiber optic cabling and equipment to give it high-speed connection. They have access to broadband this summer, and have a digital distance-learning lab that has opened all new venues to this public school.

Margaretville Central School athletics provide students soccer in the fall, basketball, cheerleading and skiing in the winter, and tennis, softball and baseball in the spring.
The school community focuses on wellness, which includes nutrition awareness and physical fitness. It is the goal to make students aware of these and to develop healthy lifestyles.

The local area has many business owners were born and raised in the area; some carry on family businesses that span generations. Others came to the Catskills years ago and feel as if the region has always been their home.

Still others are more recent converts to the rural lifestyle and prefer the upstate lifestyle for its educational opportunities and the more relaxed mountain way of life. A newer phenomenon involves "retired" professionals who head for the hills and operate "cottage businesses."
