Garden Street School is located at 20 Garden Street Brewster, NY. Putnam County is situated in the southeastern part of New York State, between the Hudson River on its west and the New York-Connecticut border on its east. Putnam is southeast of Newburgh, and it is north of White Plains. The county has six public school districts: Brewster, Carmel, Garrison, Haldane, Mahopac, and Putnam Valley. Mahopac is the largest school district in Putnam County, educating more than 5,000 students in four elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. This New York Public School serves grades K-3 in Putnam County of New York State.

Originally built in the late 1800's, Garden Street School burned to the ground and was rebuilt in 1925. The school served as the sole educational facility in Brewster until the Henry H. Wells "High School" was built in 1957. Over the years, two additions were built. The existing building stands as a 76-year-old landmark for the district and community.

At this New York school officials believe that a positive and collaborative relationship between the school, parents and community is vital to our children’s academic, social and emotional growth and well being. The teachers and staff are committed to providing the very best educational experience for your child and we are all eager to work closely and collaboratively with you throughout the entire school year. The support received from parents/guardians is tremendously important to the schools educational program and the overall success that your child experiences. Parental input on all matters related to your child’s education is encouraged.

More recently, Garden Street School has served as a kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school facility. In 1990, the fifth grade was moved to H.H. Wells Middle School to alleviate overcrowding at GSS. Eight years later, Garden Street said good-bye to fourth grade students and staff, as they found a new home at C.V. Starr Intermediate School.
