Albany High School

About

Albany High School is located in the Albany City School District. The school offers grades 9-12 and is located at 700 Washington Avenue in Albany, New York. The school first opened its doors on September 7, 1868, and was located on State Street in Van Vechten Hall. The schools’ mascot is the Falcon and the motto is “assiduity.” This image is of the Half Moon, a Dutch explorer ship, and the meaning is attention and constant diligence. This motto reflects the school’s dedication to prepare all students for higher education and to meet high standards of education, this includes foreign language. Albany High School offers Latin, Chinese, French, and Spanish language courses.

Albany High School is broken up into four different houses. These include Ninth Grade Academy, Abrookin Career Academy, North House, and South House. The students in the Ninth Grade Academy are assigned to the house their guidance counselor is affiliated with and students may choose to become part of the Abrookin Academy when they are in eighth grade. This academy is a community of 9th through 12th graders focusing on careers, yet meeting the standards set forth by Regents. A student’s house manages attendance, discipline, guidance, health, and home-school communications.

Students from Livingston or Hackett are registered automatically when they move up to Albany High School. Other students who will attend Albany must register in advance. Questions regarding registration should be directed to the Central Registrar's Office or to main office.
