Valley Stream 13 Union Free School District is governed by a seven-member Board of Education. Three members of the seven are appointed to serve on the Central High School board. The Board of Education is responsible for the fair and uniform application of all federal, state and local laws in the operation of district schools. Residents are encouraged to vote on the elementary and high school budgets, election of members to the Board of Education, and other propositions which come before the voters.

Parents are included as active members on shared decision-making teams, building action planning committees, and staff hiring committees. District staff members also support community projects and events, which include the summer community orchestra program, annual parades, and legislative events. The Valley Stream 13 Union Free School District knows that technology is a tool that has the potential to enhance learning, especially when integrated into an instructional program that engages students in authentic, meaningful learning opportunities.
