Irvington Schools

Irvington Union Free School District is located at 40 North Broadway Irvington, NY serving grades K-12 in Westchester County. The population of Irvington is 7,000. It is a suburban community, where many parents commute to New York City or to one of the growing business centers in the county or Connecticut. High end construction of new single-family homes and condominiums attract residents interested in a small community with quality schools. Irvington is located on the Hudson River, 23 miles north of New York City. Washington Irving, for whom the town is named, called it “a beautiful spot, capable of being made a little paradise.”

Most of Irvington’s residents are college graduates who have high expectations and provide very strong support for education. Through the active PTSA, most parents are very involved in the educational system, where they participate in volunteer activities and serve on district-wide committees. The district also has a strong Irvington Education Foundation that through the generosity of the community provides generous grants to the district to enrich the curriculum or opportunities for students.

The mission of the Irvington School District is to help each student discover and achieve his or her highest potential. Students, parents and staff are all joined in the pursuit of academic excellence and personal growth in a caring environment. Four schools serve the district to achieve that mission: Irvington High School, Irvington Middle School, the Main Street School (4-5) and Dows Lane Elementary School (K-3).

Faced with growing student 2006-2007 Enrollment, district voters in 2000 passed a $47 million bond issue with a new Middle School as the center and highlight of the project. In the fall of 2003, the district opened the new, state-of-the-art Middle School, located on the Irvington High School campus. In addition to sharing a new common campus area, the two schools share a modern library, cafeteria, science wing, theater, gym and fitness center.
