The city is located in the Hudson River Valley midway between New York City and Albany. The Arlington Central School District takes care of all the educational needs in this area for grades K through 12 in the County of Dutchess. The Board of Education is the official policy-making body of the school district and it is made up of citizens elected to serve unsalaried, overlapping terms of three years each.

Metro-North commuter trains run hourly to and from NYC Grand Central Station.
