Brownville School is located at 275 East Main Street Brownville, NY and provides quality education for grades PK through 6 for the community of Brownville. The Brownville School is home to 570 girls and boys in kindergarten through sixth grade. The school is located on the boundary of the villages of Brownville and Glen Park in the eastern part of the district. With a professional staff of forty-two, classes range in size from 16 to 23 depending on the grade. The Board of Education’s commitment to maintaining small class sizes, combined with the teachers’ skills and a high level of parental support, has resulted in continued high academic excellence.
Students have access to a 10,000 volume library where research skills are a part of the regular library curriculum. As part of the school’s literacy efforts, we host a library sponsored book swap in the spring and book fair in the fall, PTO sponsored Reading Bug program and Birthday Books, the Lions’ Reading Club for pre-school children and co-host with WPBS a hugely popular book festival in the spring.
Instruction in music, art, physical education and library compliment the classroom curriculum. When students reach fourth grade they may participate in the band, chorus, or the SOAR program. Intervention services are available to students at all grade levels in the area of math, science, social studies and language arts. The language arts focus is on reading and includes the use of Reading Recovery as a comprehensive strategy in first grade. Although there are no elementary sports programs, the many sports offered through community groups include football, baseball, softball, cheerleading, girls’ and boys’ soccer, basketball, lacrosse and wrestling.
